My TGP Launch Process
Written by: admin (31) comments so far... What's your take?I’ve received a few requests recently to go into detail about the “exact” traffic sources I use to generate sales. It’s no secret, my main source of traffic comes from my 30 tgp/mgp’s. I launched my first tgp, hotguystgp.com a few years back. It was obvious from the 1st day I owned a tgp that this was a way to generate a lot of traffic. I quickly snatched up a few more domains and shortly after launching my 1st tgp, I was launching 3 more.

The process for me is the same whether I am launching 1 site or 4 sites at the same time. Reason I often launch 4 at a time is because according to the author of Smart Thumbs, 1 of the 2 scripts I use on tgp’s, you can run 1 ST master license and 3 child license under the master and not slow down you server. So sometimes I just buy 4 copies of both ST and ATX, which is the trade script I use on all sites, and have them all installed together.
Here are the steps I go through with each new launch:
PRE LAUNCH
- Get domains. I have over 600 domains that I have registered over the last few years.
- Set DNS on domains. I mention this because I always forget to do it.
- Get template(s) designed. A while back I had 30 templates done all at once. So I have plenty to use right now.
- Get scripts installed. As I said before, I only use ST from Smart Scripts and ATX from Arrow Scripts.
- Load galleries. This is the most time consuming step in the whole process. I go through sponsors 1 at a time and copy/paste all the gallery links into Smart Thumbs.
- Adjust settings. At this point, I go through both scripts and make sure all my settings are correct.
- Ad upsells. This is where I add banners and text links to the template. After I’m done here I upload the template to the server and the site is ready to go live
- Set up trades. I set up trades with all my new site and all my current sites. I also set up trade with 4-5 other tgp’s
AFTER LAUNCH
- Set up feeder traffic. I will usually buy $2-300 in feeder traffic and feed the site. I like to start the feed at 150 hits/hour and work my way down as the feed runs out.
- Add more trades. In addition to my sites, I like to add appx. 10-20 more trades to each new tgp.
- Monitor new trades. If a trade is not performing my script will automatically disable it. I keep ATX set to disable trades when their prod. for last 24 hours drops below 150%
Once the site is a week or 2 old, I do the same over again. I hope to soon have a 50+ site network of tgp and mgp’s. The traffic and free adspace to promote my other projects make it worth it for sure.
If I have forgot to mention anything, or if you have any questions I’d like to here them. Just hit the comment link and let me know.

When you first start your TGP what percentage do you skim at first? Also what are good sources for feeder traffic and what is the quality of traffic you buy? How many days or weeks usually before you run out of feeder traffic? thanks!

I skim at 65% all the time. For feeder I use trafficadept.com and the quality is great. I usually buy $2-300 worth of feeder and feed at 150 hits/hour for a few days then lower the feed as it runs out.

I hope you reach your goal of 1,000 dollars a day soon. Just curious how much traffic your TGP generate a month in Gigabytes (GB) and how many how many total raw page views you recieve total from them? What type of hosting plan or plans do you use now compared to when you started and what hosting company’s do you prefer to use cause i have been researching a lot of different hosts lately.
June 10th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
I have no idea how many GB I use. Same with page views, I have never tried to total the numbers. I use swiftwill.com, xxxhostit.com and nationalnet.com. I have a different plan with each company due to the number of sites I have. But all 3 are great.

Hello!
How do you auto disable trades by prod with atx ?
Thanks!

Cap the minimum prod. for each trade.

all your sites are very impressive. what is the specific hosting you use like managed dedicated or shared, virtual private? and do you have any of your own hosting sites and do you think it is good to resell hosting or own or rent your host? i want to start my own tgp but not sure if i should start blogs first. what is more profitable and easier to start. i am not that good at writing. Could you help me out when i start? thanks
June 28th, 2008 at 7:01 am
I have 6 servers with 4 different hosts (swiftwill, xxxhostit, natnet and webair). All are dedicated and fully managed. I do not own any of my servers, all are “rented”. Blogs are definitely an easier way to start. One thing about blogs though is you do have to have a little skill when it comes to writing. Even more important is proper grammar. I’d be glad to do what I can to help.

Very interesting site you have.

I started a Gay MGP some months ago, and I used ST and AT3 and used free hosted galleries, but I found it really hard to grow the site with trades and it was really hard to find trades.
Any advice, please?
After viewing your site and reading, I really want to relaunch the site
July 1st, 2008 at 5:40 pm
Sounds like you were on the right track. It is indeed hard to grow a gay site using 100% fhg’s but not impossible. It’s gonna cost you a few hundred bucks in feeder, some great trades and hand cropped thumbs.
I am going to be posting a more detailed tgp launch process entry here this week.
July 2nd, 2008 at 12:47 pm
Yes, made a pretty nice looking site with nice handcropped thumbs from lots of quality
sponsors.
Feeder is no problems for me, but getting trades was really hard.
If I relaunch the site, I am sure I can trade with you?
Can you tell a littlebit of your trade process? Do you delete all trades with bad prod?
How many trades do you usually have total average?
July 2nd, 2008 at 6:16 pm
I try and go with 40-70 good trades. By good I mean a trustworthy site with prod of 150% or more. I have my script set up to disable and trade that sends traffic with prod less than 150%

Where do you get your traffic for your gay TGP? It seems to be a pain these days to get some quality traffic specially for gay tgps. I’ve tried BuyGayTraffic and TrafficHolder so far. Is TrafficAdept a solution? Do you have any other alternative?
July 1st, 2008 at 5:55 pm
Buygaytraffic and Trafficadept have been my 2 main sources of feeder traffic. Lately both have been a little low so I have been forcing traffic from my existing sites to feed my new sites.

Thank you so much for writing this article. The inner workings of this industry are puzzling! Your help is appreciated.
How do you keep your traffic trades healthy? I know this subject is touchy, considered trade secret and would probably deserve a whole book to itself, but maybe you have a few pointers to share?
I have been running a small tgp with ST and ATL, regularly buying feed traffic from BGT and TH, hand-cropping my thumbnails and using quality galleries, but I can’t seem to grow my trades.
Any advise?

The best advice I can give you is to make sure you are getting quality traffic back from your trades. You want to have 40-70 good trades with a prod of 150% or higher.
July 7th, 2008 at 5:15 am
i cant imagine how do you find 40-70 quality trade partner my sites trade partner quality is no more then 80% *cry* i do something wrong….
July 7th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
You have to start with a quality site so that your internal prod is nice and high.
July 7th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
what is your cost of doing business per month? if you don’t mind me ask.
July 7th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
About $1400
September 9th, 2008 at 10:33 am
At traffiacadept.com wich traffic quality type do you buy?
October 3rd, 2008 at 8:39 am
I switch from time to time depending on what I can afford for the month.

Hi. How often do you add new fhgs to your tgp/mgp site after launch it?
October 3rd, 2008 at 8:40 am
As often as my good sponsors make new ones available.
September 29th, 2008 at 10:27 am
Hi,
it is interesting reading here, I do come back now and then…..
Let me ask you, in this post in the PRE LAUNCH section, you writing you have 600 domains.
Are they all developed TGP’s? (I have been reading somewhere, that you have like 30 webs…)
October 3rd, 2008 at 8:40 am
No, majority 580+ are not developed.
October 17th, 2008 at 10:23 am
Hi, thanks for the awesome info! Do you run multiple categories/niches off each site or is each site dedicated to its own category/niche?
Thanks!

Thanks for your answer:)
Whats the minium amount of loaded fhg’s you start a tgp/mgp with?
Do you crop thumbs by hand? and do you use the build in crop function from your tgp script?
Thanks:)
